World geography quiz questions and answers
20 questions on rivers, mountains, lakes, straits and borders, from Everest and the Amazon to Baikal and the Ring of Fire, with answers and explanations.
Medium 20 questions 30 s each · about 16 min Checked against two sources

A physical geography round for a classroom, a homework club or a family that argues over maps. The first questions are the ones your students should get, like the country on the far side of Everest and the river that carved the Grand Canyon. The later ones reach for the Caspian Sea and the time zones of Russia. Every answer is checked against two sources. Twenty questions take about 16 minutes.
How to run it
- Put a world map on the board before you start. After each answer, point to the place. The map does half the teaching for you.
- Stop after question 9, the Andes. Ask the class to name the seven countries the range runs through before you move on. They will get Chile and Argentina, then stall.
- Questions 16 to 20 are app only and hold three of the four hard ones. Question 20, the time zones of Russia, is the tie-breaker.

What does the world geography quiz cover?
Physical geography and borders: the mountains, rivers, lakes, deserts, straits and lines of latitude that come up in any school atlas. Capital cities and famous buildings have their own quizzes on RiLiFi, so this one stays with the land and water.
What age is it for?
From about age 11. The first eight questions are easy and most of the hard ones sit in the last five, so younger students stay in the game while older ones still have something to chase.
How do I play it live with a class?
Press Go live and show the PIN or QR code on the board. Students join in a browser on a phone or tablet, with no app and no account. The leaderboard appears after each question, and the free plan covers 100 players.
Can I change the questions?
Yes. Use this template to make a copy, then swap in the rivers and mountains of your own country, cut the ones your class has not covered, or add a map picture to a question.
