How to play would you rather with teens

Show the question, give the group ten seconds to choose, then ask two or three students to explain. Keep it quick: one question as a warm-up, or two as a break in the middle of a long lesson.

  • In class. Pair up students who picked differently. Each pair gets one minute to change the other’s mind, then the class votes again.
  • In a club or youth group. Play five rounds to open a session. Ask whoever picked the less popular side to choose the next question.
  • In an online lesson. Run it as a live poll so every student answers, not only the confident ones. Show the split and ask one student from each side to explain.

Written for the classroom

Every question leaves out dating, alcohol, money, bodies and anything else a teacher would not put on a screen. Nobody has to share anything personal to answer.

The Future section suits a careers or goal-setting lesson. For first-day and group-work questions, see our icebreakers for students.

FAQ

Questions about this list

What are good would you rather questions for teens?
Questions about things teens choose every day: school, weekends, tech and plans for the future. “Would you rather start school an hour later or finish an hour earlier?” splits almost any class.
Are these questions appropriate for school?
Yes. They leave out dating, alcohol, money, bodies and other topics a teacher would not show on a screen. Nobody has to share anything personal to answer.
How do I use would you rather in a lesson?
Use one question as a warm-up or a short break. Give students ten seconds to choose, then ask a few to explain. For a longer activity, pair up students who disagree and give each pair one minute to persuade the other.
Can students vote from their phones?
Yes, students aged 13 and over can join a RiLiFi poll with a PIN, QR code or link, with no app and no account. The result shows on the board as votes come in. The free plan covers 100 people per session.
What age are these questions for?
Ages 13 to 17. RiLiFi is not meant for children under 13, so we do not write questions for younger children.
