Stop the "Death by Review": How to Gamify Your Exam Prep
The "Review Session." It’s a teacher’s nightmare. You stand at the front, re-reading slides from three months ago. You ask, "Does anyone remember this?" and get 30 blank stares.
Passive reviewing (re-reading notes) is the least effective way to study. The brain needs Active Recall to form long-term memories.
This March, ditch the slides and run a Game Show using RiLiFi.
1. Team Battles (The "Us vs. Them" Energy)
Don't let them study alone. Group them up.
- The Setup: Divide the class into "Team A" and "Team B."
- The Game: Run a RiLiFi Quiz. The winning team gets 5 bonus points on the exam (or candy).
- Why it works: Peer pressure. Students will argue about the answer, explaining the concept to each other better than you ever could.
2. The "Speed Round" (Rapid Fire)
Test their reflexes. Set the timer to 10 seconds per question.
This forces them to rely on instinct and highlights exactly which definitions they don't know yet. It’s stressful, but in a fun, low-stakes way.
3. Student-Generated Quizzes
Want to really test them? Make them write the quiz.
Assign each student a topic and have them submit one "impossible question." Compile them into a Master Quiz. They will study harder just to stump their classmates.
Conclusion
If they are laughing, they are listening. Make the review session the highlight of the semester.
